Conference Development PostgreSQL

PGConf.dev 2026

May 27, 2026

PGConf.dev 2026 takes place May 27–30, 2026 in Ottawa, Canada — the premier annual gathering for PostgreSQL core developers, committers, and active contributors.

Previously known as PGCon, the conference was renamed to PGConf.dev to better reflect its evolution into a broader developer conference while retaining its focus on the internals of the PostgreSQL project and its future direction.

Who attends

Unlike user-focused conferences, PGConf.dev is primarily attended by:

  • PostgreSQL core committers and major contributors
  • Extension and tool authors working on the ecosystem
  • Researchers working on database internals
  • Engineers from companies that contribute heavily to PostgreSQL development

Programme

The conference combines:

Unconference sessions (BarCamp format) — collaborative working sessions where contributors discuss proposed patches, design decisions, and upcoming feature work. These sessions often directly influence what lands in the next major release.

Talks — deep technical presentations on PostgreSQL internals, covering storage, the query planner, WAL, replication, and extension APIs.

Hackathon — dedicated days for contributors to work on patches together with immediate access to committers for review and feedback.

Why it matters

Decisions made at PGConf.dev often shape the PostgreSQL 19 development cycle. Following the conference’s unconference session notes (published on the PostgreSQL wiki) gives the earliest signal of what features are likely to land in the next major version.

Registration

Registration opens in March 2026 at pgconf.dev. Attendance is limited and historically sells out. Travel sponsorship is available for accepted speakers and active contributors through the PostgreSQL community fund.
